All the tombstones have been photographed and surnames have been located on a new Plot Map. The plan is to place a link by each name in the Surname Roster and locate the stone on the map along with its picture. Anyone visiting the cemetery will then be able to easily find the stones they are looking for. Coming soon.
For now the Plot Map has been updated on the website, showing the location of every visible stone, and the location of all known burials. Those in all caps are tombstones. Upper and lower case names are burials with no gravestones, and those with asterisks indicate estimated locations where records are incomplete. Take a look!
The next step will be to update the Surname Roster. We have discovered that the Find-a-grave website listing has a number of errors (which we will help to correct soon) in the form of duplicate names and missing burials. Our Surname Roster will be as accurate as our records allow. This update will be viewable soon. We will announce it here and on facebook when the Roster is uploaded.
Then the tombstone photo links will be phased in. This aspect will take some time to accomplish and will be done in sections. We are still discussing the logistics, so stay tuned!
We are currently starting to input data to our genealogy database for the Henderson Cemetery ancestry.com project. Next year we will upload this genealogical information to Ancestry in a public ‘family tree’ showing the connections between those whose resting place is in our lovely memorial park. It is our hope that those searching their own family histories on this popular site will find their way to Henderson. We will also be looking to submit this information to the online LDS database in the future … a ‘Mecca’ for genealogists.
That summarizes our plan for the near and not-so-far future of the ‘virtual Henderson Cemetery’. Please feel welcome to contact us with questions, information, suggestions and assistance!
